A Simple Chair That Rocks

Jul 28, 2010 by

Check out this awesome rocking chair that generates its own electricity while you rock.

It stores the electricity you generate by rocking in its battery pack for later use.  Brilliant

i like the concept but i would prefer a more contemporary design before i purchased one

    moving light….annoying

  • Guest

The light doesn't move relevant to the reader.

  • Jakezaiss

    what lights do, headlamps?

  • http://www.profilalouminio.com Profilalouminio

I like the idea but I would prefer it with not moving light

  • Tjbear

they should make a toilet that makes electricity form the flush!

  • maduke

    nah…

  • Boogie

    yooz a dumdum

  • Kamigamistudio

great design, does exist a non-moving version?

  • kbear

Lamp appears to be at the center of the rocker radius, therefore very little movement of the lamp.

  • Digital

Ben ths looks nice but if the light moves with the motion of the chair it will give a freaky moving shadow effect to the room. Also, the amount of rocking it would take to charge a bulb that bright would be epic.

  • Brenthweidman

Needs arms to rest your arms.

  • Esparzari

So if I want to read anything, I gotta keep rockin. Kinda difficult.

  • plankster

    Very Clever :)

  • Smudgybaconz

That is so useful! It makes me think how far we have come and how little we have produced something that all mankind may call ao advanced and simple at the same time.

  • LAMBPORCH

lol i think someone was bored..

  • Liloah

it is an OLED one, which means it has no bulb and that lampshade is something can discharge the light its self when it senses the darkness.yes,i can even sense it's light or dark.so…it's very perfect.

pay attention nay-sayers: it says it STORES electricity when you rock for LATER USE and uses an OLED light so it is VERY low wattage. The idea is great, as long as there is an on off switch for the light in it.

    toilets dont need electricity….

  • Kutedymples

I was thinking the same thing as Digital about the movement of the light. But what an awesome idea.

  • Kutedymples

a rocking chair don't need electricity either

  • Xtcapple

cool looking, you are a genius ! ! ! !! so many options and so many ways to make it even better. But you made it just right sooooooooo simple. SIMPLISTIC is the theme here.. good job!!!!

  • Chairman

it has no armrests or cup holders…

  • KiLLAxmAHN

This is brilliant. I would love this as a reading chair.

  • Little_mayflower

if you put a cup holder on your rocking chair, wont your drnk spill as you move ???

  • Franco

actually they need energy that comes from the pump, and the pump does need electricity.

  • vicky

how would you generate the electricity tol light the lamp?

  • Discussthings

I wouldnt buy this chair for the simple fact that im limited. If I wanted to rock faster than the speed of light, then id have to wait for the light to catch up to me, and that would cause lighting latency and Id be pissed off because Id have to read a second and wait a second (rocking at 2c)

  • Andy Smerdon

the light will remain stationary relative to the person rocking/reading. The shadow the light casts will move and may be a bit distracting, but it is better than reading by torchlight during power failures :)

  • bawls

    best convo evar

  • Vkwfeline

    Two reasons I like it.

  • Kim

I'd like to see one in use and how long it would take to charge the bulb, etc.

I think a sliding chair would have been more efficient and less of the irritating shadow movement, although it would have to be in JUST the right position where your head doesn't cast a shadow when you slide forward.

Whew.. there are some seriously “proud to be stupid” comments here. Hard to imagine the pride some take in being clueless…. but you can bet they will offer nasty smart-alec comments to my observation.

The stupid are so predictable.. especially when they are deliberately stupid because they are mostly just lazy and spoiled.. .pampered little bed-wetters…. no stupid due to lack of brains.. stupid due to being idle pets kept by their parents as trophies proving they know how to mate.

Seems that the mechanism must be similar to those flashlights you can charge by shaking them.

Everyone should have one of this!! :) .
Led light could be better as it uses less energy than traditional bulbs

  • A Wittgen

not so new though, watches work like this for decades (if not centuries) already…but nice design

  • Bodybagbetty

    wow, you a douche much?
