Why I run

This video nails it.

Growing up I was a horrible runner.  I could never run a mile in jr high or high school.  I was always really slow and HATED running and would prefer to do almost any other form of exercise.  Then I ran a marathon.  A friend in college asked if I wanted to join him and run the LA marathon.  So I did.  Well actually before I did I trained for it.  I ran with some friends, and I still wasn’t as fast as the others and that often frustrated me.

But then something happened.

I’m not sure when, or why, or how, but all of a sudden I liked running.  I think it started around the time we started doing our long runs in training for the marathon.  All of a sudden these long runs became a great way for me to clear my mind and focus my thoughts.  When I run, my mind clears, I can order things that in priority, I find answers to questions I’ve been struggling with, and I find direction for my goals.

This video above visualizes this beautifully.

If your looking for clarity, direction, stress relief, and even some fun, I highly recommend going for a run.
