1-A-Week: Week 14 & 15 – More eBay goodness

Apr 19, 2011 by

I’ve been having quite a bit of luck with my 1AW project and actually making some nice cash in the process via eBay.

I missed posting last week, so here are two items that are going up on eBay today that I am getting rid of.

The first is my old Canon SD110 camera.  This little 3.2 megapixel camera is seriously the best camera I’ve ever owned.   It takes took amazing photos like this one.

Thats my dog Keaton.  Isn’t she pretty?

But alas, it has traveled around the world and is just worn out, but I did a bit of research and found someone who just sold the same camera, also broken, on ebay for parts and just made $76.76.  So this one goes on eBay as well.

The second item is the first 4 books from the Buffy the Vampire Slayer comic book set.  These are new books, still in their packaging and have been sitting in our closet for years.

You know when you like something and people find out you like it, then thats all you get for Christmas and birthdays?  Well my wife liked Buffy.  Actually I did too, it was a great show with amazing writing by Joss Whedon.  That said, my wife used to get Buffy stuff as gifts.   We liked the show, but we don’t need any comics based off the show.  I don’t think either of us have even ever opened or read them.  So thats why they are getting out of our house and hopefully into somone’s that can appreciate them.

So these go up on eBay for some Buffy fan to enjoy.

What are you getting rid of this week that you don’t need?

Ben Cote…

1AW is a project by which I’m getting rid of at least 1 thing each week that I do not need, want, or use anymore.  Doing at least one thing per week helps me reduce the clutter in my life and make room for what is truly important.

My artichokes are taking over.

IMG_4261-1

These things grew for over a year before showing its first artichoke, but shortly thereafter they took off and I have dozens of them growing everywhere and its awesome.

Here’s a little garden helper.

Also got some spinach and celery planted and its coming along nicely.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE snap peas.  These rarely even make it inside the house for cooking or eating.  I just eat them directly off the vine whenever I’m outside in the garden.   They are sooooo delicious.

But the artichokes are my main bounty right now.  I’ve been eating these things like crazy and loving it.

And giving them away to friends and neighbors whenever I can because I have so many.

If your looking for a good artichoke recipe, here you go.

Giving up Fear…Update

Apr 6, 2011 by

About a month ago I gave up fear for lent.  I’m not Catholic, but I like the idea of lent and each year I usually give something up.  In years past its usually been soda, sugar, TV etc.  This year I decided to go a different route.

This year I decided to give up fear.

I recently left my “normal” job to set out on my own and start some businesses on my own.  This has been one of the most exciting and scary times of my life.  So many questions, doubts, and fears were creeping up.

  • How am I going to get these things off the ground?
  • Why won’t this website work correctly!?!?
  • How in the world do you do accounting?
  • etc

I’ve gone through all those and many many more, but ever since I made the decision to give up fear, they haven’t stopped me.

I know it sounds silly, but simply the decision to not operate under fear has let me move forward past all of them knowing full well that I will figure it out as I go and it will all be OK.  Whenever I run into something on my to do list that I’m afraid of, I remember that for 40 days, I have no fear.

And it works

I simply act as if I’m not afraid and move forward and I ALWAYS find that at the end of the task I was afraid of, that it wasn’t that hard, or that scary at all.

So who knows, maybe I’ll give up fear even after lent.  So far I’m loving life without it.
