Resolutions Start When You Do

Dec 29, 2013 by

The simple truth of news resolutions is that they only work when you do.  Within that truth lies this one; your resolutions start when you do.  You can have great ideas and plans for all the great things you want to change in the new year, but they won’t happen until you start.   As with all of these weekly posts I’ve been posting for the past year, it comes down to simple actions being taken.  Thinking about and planning the great diets and workout routines you will start in the new year don’t amount to squat unless you take action on them daily.

Soon you will see a lot of new faces at the gym and running along the streets in your area.  Very soon after you won’t see those faces anymore.

It all comes down to taking action.  Intentions are well and good, but they don’t make the difference.  Your resolutions start when you do, not on January 1st.

If you make any resolutions this year, let them be to take some simple actions toward your goals.  If you are looking for any simple actions to take each week to make your life better, then check out any of the 51 suggestions below.

Have a safe and happy new year and may 2014 be the best year you’ve ever made for yourself and others.

It’s a new year, let’s get going

Jan 1, 2013 by

It’s a new year.  It’s a new opportunity to try again.  It’s time to start fixing what’s wrong and making this life a little better.

Does that sound daunting to you?  It shouldn’t.

This is simple.  Come with me.  This is going to be fun.

Starting TODAY, yes, TODAY, we are going to start fixing  our problems.  Starting today, we are going to fix our world, and its going to be simple and dare I say a little fun even.

Every day we have a choice.  We can go left or right.  We can get up and go for a walk or run or we can sit down and watch the latest reality TV show.  This year we will choose to improve.  This year we will choose to make our lives and the lives of those around us better.   This year we will take simple steps toward that goal each day and will see dramatic results.

Imagine a place where everyone around you took that extra step to make your life just a little bit easier.  Neighbors brought up your trash cans for you when you forgot.  Friends cooked a nice homemade meal for you.  Strangers handed  you coupons for the items you were buying at the grocery store.  Everywhere you went, people were going just slightly out of their way to make the world a better place for all those around them.  Does that sound like some place you’d like to live?

Good, lets go there together.

This is simple.  Here’s how it works.

I have created a list of 52 simple things to make you and the world around you better.  Each week, on Mondays, I will post one simple action that you need to take that week.

I see countless magazines and ads for making yourself look better.  “How to drop 10 pounds before the holidays” or “Top 10 muscle building exercises you can do at home” etc.

I also see countless self help books on how to feel better.  Whether it be on how to escape depression or how to cope with stress, there are thousands of titles available.  And while there are several books on how to be a better person I don’t hear people talking about this as much.  In fact I don’t hear many people talking about this much at all.  I want to talk about it.

I don’t just want to be a better person for the sake of being a better person.  I want to make my life and the life of those around me measurably better.  And I want others to aspire to that goal as well.  I want to live in that place where we look out for one another.  I want to be around people who are trying to make life a little better for everyone they encounter.

Now you may say that I’m a dreamer, but I am not the only one.

It really all comes down to a choice.  Do I want to merely exist in this world and scrape by doing the bare minimum or do I want to suck every drop of life out of every minute and make this world a much better place in doing so?

Join me on this simple adventure.  Choose more than just existing.  Let’s change the world together.

Let’s get started right now.

Here is the Truly Simple Action #1

TSA #7 – Improve

Jan 4, 2012 by

Happy new year everyone and thank you very much for visiting TrulySimple.  I hope you rang in the new year in style.

I think we fell asleep at 9pm.  haha.  But we did get up really early that morning.

All excuses aside, its time to think about how we do better in 2012.  It’s not too late to make resolutions.  In fact its never too late.  The thing I don’t like about new years resolutions is that everyone makes them on January 1st and they are done trying by March 1st.  Just look at the crowds at the gym to verify this trend.

Resolutions are simply just efforts to improve, and that is awesome.  We should be making these every year, month, week, day etc.  There should be a constant strive to be just a little bit better.   That is why it is not too late to make some resolutions.  It’s never too late.

I’m still working on mine.  One of them is to make resolutions all year long and be constantly trying to improve.  Part of that will be via the Truly Simple Actions I do each week and some will just be personal goals for myself.

So this weeks Truly Simple Action for you is to improve.  Make resolutions.  Make some decisions to change and improve some areas of your life and work at them.

As I said I’m still working on my resolutions, but here are a few I’ve got so far:

  • Read more books instead of watching TV.
  • Stop eating in front the computer
  • Be more present when spending time with others (aka get off my computer and/or phone)
  • Take the dog on more walks
  • Finish the backyard project
  • Get working on my car project again

I’m still working on many more, but thats a good start for my list.  I hope to add to it throughout the year and hopefully cross many of them off as I accomplish them.

What are your resolutions?  Don’t have any?  Make some.

Even if its just as simple as these that I stole borrowed from krishnabrodhi on Anybeat:

  1. Try
  2. Go easy on myself if I don’t make it
  3. Try again

Share your resolutions in the comments to help inspire others
